Having a small garden in our
home is not commercially favorable. But we can feel the therapeutic effect of
nature. You can get fresh, hygienic vegetables, fruits etc., on your own. It
gives you some pleasure and energy which would acts as a medication for the
harm which we get through this concrete world. Here are some ideas to get your own
rooftop garden.
PLAN YOUR PLANTS:
First of all, you have to plan what type of plants that you are going to seed. For this here are few points which you have to know first,
- Your soil type
- Your Weather condition
- Your Season
Based on these things, you have to choose the plant type. For this, you
can refer Plant Chart (or) Krishi website for your area.
GET YOUR SEEDS:
Now come to the title
"KITCHEN TO GARDEN DOORS", we're going to get our seeds from our
kitchen cabinet like fenugreek, mustard, pepper etc., and also vegetables,
fruits seed. If you don't know exactly what are these stuffs, then you can get
these from nearby shops (or) from online also. JUST KIDDING. Keep reading these ideas for rooftop gardening.
PREPARE YOUR POT:
Choose the right pot to sow
your seeds. If you are going to plant coriander, mustard etc., seeds like that
you don't need large pots, you can select tray. Or else you can select pots
based on the plant size. It's better if you can get pots of 14x14 inches width
and depth.
START PLANTING:
Yes, now you are ready to
get dirty. Start planting your seeds. If you are going to seed tomato, chilies,
any other leafy vegetables, you first sow the seeds in small pots. Once the
seeds get germinated and some leaves popping out of the soil, then you can
shift it to large pots.
ALL YOU NEED TO DO:
All Good. Hereafter, nature
will take care of the plant. All you need is to water your plant regularly.
Don't leave your plant to remain thirsty. Add fertilizer once a month
to maintain nutrition of your plant. See how to prepare fertilizer from waste at home.
IS PESTICIDE NECESSARY ??
Yes, to protect your plants
from insects and some microorganisms, we need to add pesticides to plants. No
need to buy expensive pesticides, as ours is small farming, we can use Neem oil
(or) Boil Neem leaves in water, let it cool down and spray it on your plants.
LET IT PREPARE ITS OWN FOOD:
While harvesting leafy
plants, we don't cut all the leaves from the plant. We should leave some leaves
there, so that the plant could be able to prepare its own food. Or else
whatever the nutrition that we are giving to the plant from our end, it stops
growing at some point.
BE PATIENCE:
Everything takes its own
time to get prepare. So we need patience to see the beautiful view of our
garden All Good, Our Rooftop Garden is ready. Start Harvesting. Make sure to
place some chairs in terrace and enjoy the nature with loved ones. Hope this ideas for rooftop gardening helps you!!
