Have u ever seen your grandma running after a medical store or doctor for every now & then? Plants had offered medicinal value way before we began having a history. In fact, the base of many modern medicines that we are using today is derived from plants. So it is good to grow medicinal plants at home.
We love growing plants at home. But how many of you know we can also get medicinal benefits from them? Nowadays, there has been a rise in health problems. We keep on visiting doctors and hospitals for even common health issues. But many of the general health issues can be resolved in a natural manner. There are so many plants around us that have medicinal benefits. If you don't have garden, start your own using the ideas for rooftop gardening
1. Tulsi (Holy Basil):
Is there any Indian house without Tulsi? Tulsi has been in our life religiously, but that’s not only the reason, Tulsi is also known for its healing properties of the body, mind and spirit.
- Tulsi is taken as herbal tea.
- It also helps in lowering high blood pressure & relieving stress.
- It is used for curing cold, cough, sore throat & Asthma.
- Oil from tulsi is also used as an ear drop.
- Karpoora Tulsi's oil is mostly used in the herbal toiletry. Its oil is also helpful against bacteria and insects.
- Tulsi helps in curing malaria.
- It is very effective against headache, indigestion, insomnia, hysteria and cholera.
- Millions of people are taking the fresh leaves of Tulsi every day.

Aloe Vera:
Aloe Vera plant is the most common houseplant grown in every home as it is easy to grow and also with many medicinal benefits. It has thick and fleshy, green leaves arising from the base of the plant without stem.
Many people using it for both to beautify the space and to use the gel. Some prefer to apply the gel on skin and hair and some to consume Aloe Vera juice. Nowadays, aloe leaves are commercially used in cosmetics and medicines where it is known to treat of diseases like hair fall, skin diseases, sunburns etc.
It is found to have moisturizing, soothing and healing properties. It also reduces skin swellings.
Ajwain:
One of the important herb and easily grown plant in Indian home. It has a very strong scent and we are using it in various ways. The Ajwain plant grows in bunch and looks very similar to the money plants.
- Ajwain seeds are taken with lukewarm water which helps in acidity, various digestive problems and stomach-ache.
- Treats stomach problems like peptic ulcer, enhances digestion, reduces blood pressure and reduces cholesterol level in body.
- Inhaling mild heated ajwain seeds helps in treating headaches, cough and cold.
- Due to its strong smell, it acts as a mosquito repellent, when applied with mustard oil.
Ginger:
Ginger not only adds flavor to the food but also serves many medicinal benefits.
- Roots of Ginger is rich in fibers which aids in digestion.
- Ginger can reduce the gastric acid secretion. Reduces the flow of gastric fluids thus preventing acid reflux vomiting and nausea.
- Ginger roots while using as a tea helps in losing weight by increasing the metabolism.

Turmeric:
Turmeric is a perennial rhizomatous herb plant which is using for its edible and strong medicinal properties. It contains curcumin as its active ingredient which acts as powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory.

Mint plants love warm temperature, moist soil and bright sunlight. And we can use it as garnishing in food items in fresh or dried conditions they . Mint is a great source of vitamin A, folate, manganese and iron.

Mustard:
Apart from being used as an ingredient in many dishes, it has different medicinal benefits. The yellow mustard seeds are rich in poly nutrients, vitamins and minerals.
- Mustard oil prevents hair lice, dandruff and hair fall.
- It cures cough, asthma and pain due to sprain.
- Helps in reducing the severity of asthma attacks.
